Sabbaghian Hebert

BIO
Dr. Shirin Sabbaghian Hebert is board certified in both General Surgery and Complex Surgical Oncology. She studied Microbiology at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, where in three years she graduated Summa Cum Laude and as a University Medalist (maintained a 4.0 GPA throughout college). She chose to pursue research of HIV at the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, Maryland, for one year. At the NIH, she was able to build the groundwork to understand basic science research.  She moved on to study medicine at Louisiana State University in New
Orleans, where she was number one in her class. She was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha while there. She then pursued training in General Surgery, and she completed her internship and residency in General Surgery at New York University. While there, she spent two years as a
Translational Research Fellow studying benign gallbladder disease, pancreatic cancer, and colon cancer. As a senior resident, she also studied clinical aspects of sarcoma. She moved on to complete her fellowship in Complex Surgical Oncology at University of Pittsburgh, learning how to diagnose and treat a variety of cancers and benign tumors throughout the body (including breast, skin, soft tissue, and GI/Colorectal/Hepatobiliary tract). Dr. Sabbaghian Hebert’s unique
background and training have provided her expertise not only in the surgical management of these disease processes but also knowledge of individual tumor biology and the science behind treatment. In this era of “personalized medicine”, this knowledge, teamed with a multidisciplinary group of experts in other fields (including Medical Oncology and Radiation Oncology), enables the best care of each individual patient.
 

Dr. Sabbaghian Hebert is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons. She became a member of Alpha Omega Alpha in her third year of medical school. She is an active member of the Society of Surgical Oncology, the American Society of Breast Surgeons, the Louisiana Oncology Society, the Clinical Robotic Surgery Association, and the Association of Women Surgeons.  She is certified in robotic surgery.
 

When she is not working, Dr. Hebert is joyful to spend time with her husband, three children, and two dogs.
